Member referral program
It’s true. There are some things that just go together – peanut butter and jelly, movies and popcorn, nuts and bolts, body and spirit. Workouts, too, are simply better when you share the journey with someone else. And now, having a workout buddy is even more rewarding.
When you and your friend commit to the Y together, you both enjoy an exclusive membership savings off of the standard membership rates, up to 20%, each month.
here’s how it works:
I am a YMCA Member:
Bring in a new Y member and receive a 20% savings on your membership as long as you both remain members of the Y. Your friend, the new member, will receive a 10% savings on their membership. Your friend will have an opportunity to increase their savings to 20% when they add a friend as a new member.
I am not A YMCA MEMBER:
Find a friend that is a Y member and get a referral. You will receive a 10% savings on your membership. When you refer a friend and they join as a new member, you will receive an additional 10% savings as long as that friend remains a member.
If one of you leaves the Y (we do not have a contract for membership), the remaining member has 30 days to refer a new member to the Y in order to keep the 20% savings. After 30 days, your savings adjustment will be reduced to 10%, as long as the member who referred you to the Y is still a member.
Some restrictions may apply. Only one savings adjustment type per membership.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the Member Referral Program?
The YMCA Member Referral Program is a member-get-a-member level of membership that incorporates a savings of 20% for the current member and 10% for the new member, off the standard rate of membership. If one of the pair leaves the Y, the remaining member has 30 days to refer another friend to the Y in order to keep the full referral savings of 20%.
How do I get started?
Y members need to identify a non-member friend and the friend joins the Y. Once the friend joins and provides the Y member’s name, the savings adjustments will be applied to both memberships. The new member receives a 10% savings and the referring member receives a 20% savings.
Does my friend or family member have to be with me to join?
No. In fact, the referral process is completed by visiting the Olean, Bradford or Wellsville Y and completing the join process. You will need to have your friend’s name and valid email address.
Can I refer more than one friend or family member?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of friends or family members you can refer to the Y. In fact, it is to your benefit to refer more than one friend or family member, so that in the event one of your referrals decides to leave the Y, you have another referral attached to your membership, which ensures your membership savings stay in place. However, the maximum savings you will receive is 20%.
How long is this membership savings valid?
The 20% membership savings is valid as long as both friends remain members of the Y. Should one of you cancel your membership (we do not have a contract policy), the remaining member has 30 days to refer another friend or family member to join. If the remaining member does not refer another friend or family member to join within 30 days, the referral savings adjustment will be reduced to 10%. The YMCA staff will review the referral program every year to make sure it’s a win-win for everyone. Any changes to the program will be communicated to you 30 days in advance.
Will the referral rate ever increase?
Yes. Future membership rate increases will be applied to the referral rate, but will reflect a 10% or 20% savings as long as you are eligible for the referral savings and the referral rate is offered by the Y.
Does my friend or family member have to join the same Y?
No. A friend or family member can join any one of our three (3) membership branches (Olean-Bradford-Wellsville).
Who is eligible to participate in the member referral program?
All membership categories, except STUDENT, who pay through automatic bank draft are eligible. Those Y members currently on Income-Based and Scholarship rates are able to refer members, however they will not receive additional savings. Their friend would receive the 10% savings. Members must be continuous members of the Y in order to participate in the referral program; those members that put their membership on seasonal or medical hold are not eligible for this membership program. A new member is considered a member that has not been a member of the YMCA of the Twin Tiers (Olean-Bradford-Wellsville) for ninety (90) days or longer.
I already have a savings adjustment on my membership from my employer. Can I still add the referral adjustment?
You can refer new members, but you are only able to have one savings adjustment on your membership. You can chose either the corporate partner savings from your employer or the referral savings, not both.
Can I put my membership on HOLD and still receive the referral savings?
Placing your membership on hold will remove the savings adjustment from your membership and may impact your friend’s account as well. You will need to recomplete the referral registration process upon resuming your active membership. If your friend is no longer a Y member, you will not receive the referral savings until you refer a new member.
I referred my friend and my friend joined. When do they receive their reduced rate?
The referral rate will go into effect when the referred membership is activated and automatic bank draft is started. The reduced rate for your membership will be reflected in the next billing cycle following the join date of the friend or family member you refer.
Before the member referral program began, I referrred multiple families to join the Y. Can I receive a rate reduction based on their memberships?
No. The referral membership savings is only available for current members referring new members.
Can I receive a refund if necessary?
No. Membership fees are non-refundable.
I am joining the Y as a new member in the Member Referral Program. Do I have to pay a joining fee?
Yes. You will be asked to pay a join fee at the time you join the Y, unless you join during a membership promotion that waives this fee. The amount you pay will be determined by the type of membership you are receiving.
I rent a locker and register for additional programs. May I apply the 20% savings to those fees?
No. The 10% or 20% membership savings may only be applied to the standard membership rate.
I work for the YMCA. Can I refer a friend?
Yes. You have the opportunity to refer up to two (2) friends/family and extend the referral membership savings. Be sure to speak with your Membership Director to discuss eligibility first.
