Cardio Fitness

The most important muscle in the body is the heart. Yet, many people who workout seem to think they don’t need to do cardio. Cardiovascular (or cardio) exercise has numerous health benefits. In addition to burning calories and lowering your body fat, it will strengthen your heart and lungs. Since heart disease is the leading cause of premature death for both men and women, cardiovascular fitness is very important and should never be over looked.

Just begin your conditioning by picking an activity and work on exercising intensely enough to raise your heart rate and keep it elevated. And remember, the heart is the most important muscle in your body, so treat it that way. Think of it as an investment in yourself.


CARDIO CLASSES

These classes will increase heart rate and help improve your overall cardiovascular and cardio respiratory fitness. These classes are upbeat and fun to participate in. Some classes incorporate steps, dance, punching bags and bikes. All classes are free to Y members with no pre-registration necessary. Note: not all classes are available at all locations. Please check your local Y schedule for offerings and day/times.

Cardio Classes include:

Boot Camp: (Co-ed) Challenge yourself with this fast-paced, calorie-blasting workout using the traditional boot camp style approach. Boot camp is geared toward all fitness levels. Modifications are always offered for the beginner to the advanced.

Cardio Cycling/Spinning: This class is performed on a LiveStrong® indoor cycling bike in Olean and the Keiser® indoor cycling bike in Bradford. In both locations, instructors will guide you through an all-terrain ride while focusing on proper body alignment, heart rate and proper cycling techniques.

Cardio Mix: This cardiovascular workout will improve the efficiency of your heart, lungs and circulatory system through continuous efforts that will not only elevate your heart rate, but also burn calories and increase your endurance.

Cardio Strength & Fitness: This class offers a combination of aerobic exercise and strength training exercises.

Circuit Training: This class offers a combination of aerobic exercise and strength training exercises.

Dance Circuit: You’ll burn up the dance floor while you burn calories in this class. This class incorporates dance and strength training/sculpting for a fun workout.

Fitness Mix: Instructors alternate to lead this “wild card class” that will always provide a great workout!

Kickboxing: Get a bigger kick out of your workout! This class incorporates kicks and punches to make a full body workout. Moves can be modified to lower the intensity.

Morning Madness: Join us for a fun early morning workout. Cardio and strength exercises are combined in this workout that gets you ready for the day.

Power Half Hour: This class offers a combination of aerobic exercise and strength training exercises.

RBT (Rest Based Training): This class is based on the concept of Rest Based Exercise. Rest and work in exercise are dependent upon one another and together deliver better results. In this class, you push until you can’t and rest until you can. Every participant determines their own intensity. Great workout to improve your metabolic efficiency.

Total Training: This class offers a combination of aerobic exercise and strength training exercises.

Turbo Kick®: This fast paced high intensity workout will have you punching, jabbing, kicking, and moving your way into the fitness level you desire. It is a no contact cardio workout routine. We also offer different levels to help every person, new or regular, enjoy the class!

Zumba®: Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away! You will achieve long term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating hour of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements.

Zumba® / Dance Fitness: Latin-inspired music and dance steps create a dynamic, exciting fitness class.
