Y Stories

There are a million Y Stories out there.
Everybody seems to have one.
What’s your story?

The YMCA of the Twin Tiers continues to make an impact in lives every day. Feel free to share your Y story with us so that we can let the world know how much the Y has meant to you.

A Single-Parent Family Benefits from the Y

“As a single mother, I find resources and family activities limited. Having access to the various services provided by the YMCA has been beneficial beyond measure. My children enjoy swim lessons, Child Watch and other fun activities. Not only have we greatly benefited from the YMCA but I truly do believe it’s one of this community’s greatest assets.”

A Grateful Dad Was Given a Hand Up

“Due to a recent work injury, we were in need and were granted a family reduced membership. The greatest benefits are seen in my 9 year old. The Y offers him a well-rounded program such as swimming, basketball and new activities like wall climbing and camping. A scholarship was granted to our son to spend a week at the Y’s camp where he met new friends and gained more new experiences. We are truly thankful and indebted to the Y.”

YMCA financial assistance for membership and camping is made possible by the Annual Campaign.

An Older Adult Finds New Hope

“I lost my husband of 46 years. I was lonely and very depressed. My children who are members urged me to join. WOW! The Y has brought so much meaning back into my life. I now look forward to each day and spend my morning there after attending 8 am mass. The staff and everyone there is so kind and friendly which has made a big difference. THANK YOU!”

The Y Made One Family’s Dream a Reality

“With the scholarship program, my family is becoming better rounded in our daily activities. I have discovered how much my daughter, as opposed to my son, enjoys playing basketball. It has helped them develop individuality and gives them a safe place to go to after school. I will not forget the people who made our DREAM a REALITY! Thank you so much. We really appreciate your generous help.”

The Water is the Greatest Place to be!

“I had two hip replacements and the doctor could not believe how fast I recovered. Coming to the YMCA has helped my recovery, build my confidence, meet new friends and have a whole lot of fun. Remember, you are only 15lbs in the water.”

An Older Adult Recovers at the Y and Finds Renewed Life

“The YMCA Active Older Adult fitness classes are what I love. The doctor told me I am a miracle after my lung surgery. I walk three times a day. Without the Y, I could not have recovered as fast, and now I can enjoy every day of my life.”

Each year, the YMCA gives hundreds of older adults a place where they can stay physically and socially active.

Your contribution to the Y is going directly to the families who are struggling, to the single moms and dads, to children in need and most importantly, the next generation of upstanding citizens in the United States.
